Yeah, youtube and forums are a crapshoot. When I started woodworking the world wide web didn’t exist and I had no trouble learning how to properly use & tune a handplane or build a table. It required more effort to learn but it also required more effort to put the information out there so there was some vetting. Now it’s easy to be an expert: read a blog, watch a video, regurgitate. I see it on social media like reddit, where the person is repeating bad advice they wouldn’t be repeating if they tried it. On the other hand, youtube has saved my butt a few times especially with car or plumbing repairs. So on the whole, Youtube is a good thing, one of the best things to ever come of the internet. Social media, not so much, fail. Forums, 50/50.
