I am a self taught woodworker. When I started 30 years ago I was dependent on the Sears Craftsman sales clerk :(. Then the Big Box stores L and HD came to town, and my skill set improved with the knowledge of their helpful staff :). Ok, hopefully you recognize my early struggles. I remember the first time I stumbled across woodcraft and rockler. I have to admit they were very helpful, the only problem was the closest one was more than 500 miles away from me, so I only visited when traveling to a town that had one or through their mail order catalog. Even today the closest one is a 3.5 hour drive.

For me YouTube and Lumberjocks has been an amazing resource to help me not only with complex questions, but even simple ones in which I have just never had exposure to.

Now as far as educating the youth. Just because you read it and watch it on YouTube doesn’t mean you’re an expert. You have to actually do it, How many times does the video fall just a little short of actually getting it done, or the explanation on the forum assume you know just a little bit about the subject.
