My Dad was an Auto Body mechanic for decades. He had all his own tools at work and at home.
As he got older, he swore he would no longer do side work at home.
To re-enforce this, he sold off all his tools he kept at home.
He “burned the ships” as it were. Now he had an excuse to tell people. (I can’t do the side job ‘cuz I don’t have tools)

It wasn’t even a year before he had to buy back all his tools. He’s long since retired, but, I think his tools are all still in his garage. They largely go unused.
