Thank you all. Answers I expected.
Brad: Sounds like fun. If by “fun,” you mean “swatting a hornet’s nest just to see how many you can outrun.”
John: I’ve had many a Swissperson in my car. Not a one of them failed to speak perfect American English.
It makes me wonder, if, mebbees, there’s some way someone gets a line on underperforming websites and smells a desperate pigeon.
Like the age-old vacuum cleaner salesman who says, “Sure, it’s a $2000.00 investment in your future. How much is it worth to you to protect your offspring/pets/self/aged parents from all those dangerous pathogens in the air you breathe?” (I will NEVER fall for that again.)
Or, the “hearing health professional” (read: Miracle Ear salesman) who says, “Isn’t your hearing health worth $8000.00 to you?”
Snarky, effing snake oil salesmen.
The jewelry guy: “Show her how much you care. How much is her adoration worth to you? Take her breath away. Make her speechless. That oughtta shut her up.”
Or, one of the most bothersome radio commercials I hear, often: “Call today, and you can get a free CT scan – a $1500.00 value…” (This figure changes over time.)
I tried that method, long ago, on my former (also non-performing site), by putting a price on an item, then, stating, “This item has been valued at $92,000.00. At this $800.00 price, it’s a steal.” The person doing the valuing was my friend, down the street. I’d ask her, “What do you think this piece is worth? Mebbees, $70,000 – $75,000?. Her answer was always, “Oh, I’d say at least $90,000 – $92,000.”
She’s the only person who’s ever bought one of my pieces (twice) at the price I put on it. ($800.00, or $250.00. Not $92,000) I tried to convince her. But she said she didn’t trust the appraiser.)
