I d hold out or stay within the budget. There seems to be a lot of $1000+ posts which isn t helpful…

Even though some of the suggestions are above said budget, I don’t think the $1000+ posts are unhelpful unless they head into the range of ridiculous. The current < $1000 market makes me a bit uneasy right now because there’s more risk in that price range than I’d like. The OP seems to have a good feel for what he’d like in a saw. A waste of a $950 can be harder to stomach than over spending by a few hundred on a terrific lifetime saw. If I was in the OP’s shoes, I’d at least want someone offering the suggestion to cry once and smile every time I use the saw vs taking a risk on something that might not work out. Holding out may be the answer to that. Which direction to choose is up to him, but I’d be grateful for the insights even if they’re not necessarily what I was hoping to hear.

...I loved the Vega fence on my last saw but other than that it was rather poor. I need more safety, precision, power and weight.

I need a saw that doesn t run away from me when I try to set a full sheet of plywood on it. I need a saw that does not take a dump when I feed it some 8/4 hard maple.

Precision, repeatibility, safety and power.

This may well be the last table saw I ever buy I want to make the best purchase decision I can.

Worth mentioning: I make my (meager) living woodworking so I need something that will accommodate future needs.
