My shop is 30’ deep and 60’ wide. It would not bother me a bit to have it 40’ deep. For example, walk in the middle man door and you come to the table saw, about 12’ in. With the kick up outfeed, the saw is about 5’. To the wall is about 13’, of course. On that back wall are racks for carving tools, planes or whatnots. Against it are things like the router table, the drum sander, the pin router…..

That leaves about 10’ between the saw and the items on the back wall for assembly. It, certainly, would not hurt my feelings to have another 5’ of assembly area.

My shop looks like a nicer house than our house. I like that, because it seems certain people might be more inclined to assume it’s occupied. The down side is, delivery types want to deliver there, rather than the house, about fifty or so feet away. When they pound on the door, they get no answer, if I’m not their or the big 3hp “vacuum” is running.
