Lots of ways to try to find what works best for you.
Covering them in shavings does keep air movement away from them as a temporary measure.
I usually anchorseal the outside on all. If really wet I make a sorta hourglass on the inside to cover end grain.
Usually the “waist” of the hourglass is down to nothing instead of as shown. Then into a closed paper grocery bag with no shavings.
