I see several problems trying to re-purpose a refrigeration compressor. One big problem is that most require oil mixed in with the freon to lubricate them. You could run oil through with the air, which might be suitable for pneumatic air tools that require lubrication also, but would not work at all for spraying finishes. There are a few that use an external oil supply, but it might be cost prohibitive to find a suitable one. Then you also have to figure in the costs of the air storage tank, plumbing, pressure cut off switch, wiring and then figuring out how to mount it all in a single package. Would probably be a lot less hassle and cost to just buy a quiet compressor like the CA ones mentioned above. Keep an eye out on CL, as they do show up from time to time.

Cheers,
Brad
