Not necessarily. Since this are at work, I have no idea what service they perform. If they are in a dirty environment they will need a good cleaning, and if there is any chance at all that someone used furniture polish on them they should probably get a coat of dewaxed shellac first. If they are in a kitchen type envirionment that cleaning should be done with TSP (the real stuff, not the “substitute”). You also didn’t mention what kind of paint you intend to use….if it’s latex (as in wall paint), don’t do any of this since it will turn out poorly anyway. Best to use a 100% acrylic (waterborne) or an oil enamel.
