I lift the entire SSD head and plate off by lifting it up, without removing any hose. This makes life easier, since, as shop fate would have it, the jointer bed is inches away and the lid rests there, balanced by the still connected top hose. I have considered a pulley (currently resting on top the SDD lid, waiting installation on the ceiling. I already put one pulley up for the output hose swaps and it made a HUGE difference.

NOTE: I found it just as easy to swap the four hoses around as to open and close blast gates, which further reduced air flow (noted a big improvement without any equipment). The pulley is for swaps between the double hose connection for the upper and lower portions of the table saw and the sanding station. The other two hoses are for the lathes and the planer. Last and by itself is the planer hose, which also does floor vacuum duty.
