You might want to check out this wiki article about those planers history and changes over at the VM site:

The Ubiquitous Parks 12 inch Planer

At least that should give you an indication of the machines age. And based on a quick read of the above, it appears that the 1901 is essentially the same as the 23490, so the manual I linked to above should get you going. From that manual, it says:

The gear box should be lubricated with 1/2 to 1 pound of soft pressure-gun grease obtainable at automotive service stations

Now… what ‘soft pressure-gun grease’ actually means is left up to you to decide :)

You might want to post your question over at the OWWM site, as there are a few members there that have those machines and could probably let you know what they wound up using or what other info they may have.
