You’re definitely not alone. I’ve been thinking about this one a lot lately.

If it’s becoming a problem, then… it’s a problem. :)

The problem that I’ve found is that I see a scrap, and set it aside for “later” but later doesn’t ever get here. You have to make plans for using scraps, or else make a burn bin. Otherwise, you’re storing and never using.

I’ve been really re-thinking the “workshop storage” concept. I want my workshop to be a place where work gets done, not a space where tools and lumber are stored.

Having a lathe does help, for some reason. Even the tiniest piece can usually be turned into an interesting shape, and I really enjoy miniature turning. And segmented turning is a great way to use up offcuts, too. I grabbed some scraps earlier today to make a pen, fwiw.

At some point, the output from the shop has to equal the inflows.
