Your last question is the easiest to answer … a beautiful jewelry box, the cherry crotch would be a good start
Your first question – You may have to rough cut them down to size before hitting the bandsaw.
Check the web … there are many ideas about building auxiliary table tops for your bandsaw along with a carriage to hold the work piece and guide it thru the blade. Then use your hand planes or a drum sander to get toward your finish surface. I wouldn t use a planer on this material. With the grain being extremely non-directional and would probably self destruct in the planer.

Thank you for this info! Funny I had been looking at all types of sites on resawing but never saw one for a bigger table. Will look into it. Great point about not using a planer, could be a disaster.
