i have a thought on the 8” or 12” . I went an 8” . mostly i needed the length of the bed for long stock over the 6” . now the issue with the 12” ,not only is the cost ,also generally they a 3ph ,i do not have or want to get into 3 ph .but the biggie was space it takes up ,shop space is extremely valuable . my shop is 22×50 which is bigger then alot out there but never big enough .wouldn’t a 12” be nice though . I am also not so much a wood worker by trade but a carpenter . though i have built 4-5 tables , they did not require a 12” jointer . Interesting what jobs have come my way .
anyhow in the end I decided on an 8” due to the space the 12” would need . I picked up a made in canada general for 400$ ,then added the hellical head for another 400 i think .gotoff cheap .
12” though would be nice . since adding the head i use the jointer a lot more .not having to deal with dull blades or concerned about dulling them is rather nice .i use alot of used wood .
if i had more space i would add in a dedicated dado head /molding head tablesaw .
So for me it has been space .
