I’m assuming you aren’t trying to get slabs with two live edges. If that is the case, you should be able to freehand rip cut the log with your chainsaw.

I have only a 20” bar on my chainsaw so my approach would likely be to trim a little off the log, creating a flat, flip it over and make another flat parallel to the first. That would reduce the thickness by a few inches allowing me to get my 20” bar past the center by a little so I could cut the log into two halves.

Alternatively you might want to just do rip cuts with the chainsaw to square up the log enough to fit it into your 28” woodmizer
