I took an old storage shed we had on the property, disassembled it and moved it to where we wanted the chickens. It’s 8×8 and makes a great coop. On the backside of it I used 3 sections of cattle panel and stood them on ends and bent them over to form a chute, so to speak. At 8’ wide they are about 6’ high when bent, tall enough to walk in to change water and feed. I attached 1/2” hardware cloth to the cattle panels with wire to keep out coons and fox. Forget chicken wire, it won’t even slow a coon if they want in. Covered the hardware cloth with a couple of blue tarps that Harbor Freight occasionally gives away for free to keep them cooler on our hot Texas days. I built a door and installed it at the end opposite the coop. I also built nesting boxes on one side of the coop so we don’t even have to go in to collect the eggs. We keep 6-8 chickens in it. They free range most days.
