It looks really pretty and as someone who has done crafts (wire jewelry, watercolor and oil painting, even some quilting years ago with hand dyed fabrics) the “pretty” aspect worries me. I suggest that you consider making some accessories for it that are giant placemats made of Formica laminate that will protect the wood top from damage during crafts that involve adhesives, dyes, knives, and the occasional hammer.

It s cheap, it can be cleaned easily, and worst case you buy a new piece at HD or Lowe s. No guilt when the crafting adventures get a little rowdy :)

Thanks very much, Chic. I think you’re right… there will need to be something there to protect the table over the years. Was thinking about some heavy duty glass, but I hadn’t even considered your formica suggestion. Could not only protect it, but function decoratively as well…
