Indeed, that is cherry blotching. Solve it by sanding to around 220 grit. Now, starting with bare sanded wood put a coat of dilute sealer on it (that would be 3 parts of alcohol to one part of Zinser Bulls Eye Seal Coat). Allow this to dry for at least an hour then put your stain ( I usually use Minwax Cherry Stain) on it or in your case the Minwax Antique Oil finish. Rub this out with fine steel wool #0000 or 800 or higher grit sandpaper wax and buff. Good Luck! Hope this helps.
