I have enjoyed Steve Ambrose’s books. He wrote “Citizen Soldiers” and “Band of Brothers”. Both are about WWII. His writing style is detailed enough but not overly so, which can happen with some historians. The pace of his books makes them an enjoyable read.

I used to read American Heritage magazine. I liked it but it is from an American perspective. Sometimes other authors’ views didn’t match the articles I had read. There are always multiple view points, especially with historical events.
