I have a largish block of Jatoba, it is much darker and the grain is less pronounced, much more pores exposed as well. That goes on to say that there is a large variance in appearance tree to tree 8^)

Yes, I have some jatoba that is a bit lighter in color and the graining is not very pronounced, as well, but I’ve been looking for some more and have seen some from reputable suppliers where the grain much more visible, such as this piece that Bell Forest Products has listed for sale.

I think is has a lot to do with where the tree grew, but just wanted to throw it out as a possibility.
