Sorry MM, but it’s got nothing do do with HSS vs. carbide. I don’t own a single carbide Forstner and they cut just fine.

Its just what he said: QC. If they don’t stay on top of QC like white on rice and hold their feet to the fire, the Chinese seem default to whatever makes them the most profit, which in most cases, is make them faster (ie cut corners)/us cheaper materials.

This is why things like huge tolerances, crappy steel, and poor casting clean up is so common with Chinese tools and the American distributors let them get away with it because all they want is the cheapest product (think Harbor Freight, Northern Tool, etc.).

I’ve had similar problems with replacement parts made in China, most recently with Jet.
