Sealing Jatoba

Hi folks, I made some amp isolation boards from Jatoba for a client. He intends on using a wax (Briwax) for finishing and will do it himself. All he wants me to do for finishing is to apply a sanding sealer to close all the pores, I would assume.

I thought I had a can of Sanding Sealer on hand but it turned out to be Wood Conditioner.

So…..question:

Can I use the conditioner in place of the sealer or, barring that, can I use something else in place of the sealer?

Cheers…Don

Depends on how much seal you want. Meself I prefer some poly for less humidity changes. Oil and wax degrade faster than a good coat of poly. How long is this expected to last and how often do you want to renew the finish?

There are 6 platforms and once in place, they won't be moved, just have audio equipment sitting on the,. The client declined a Poly finish for fear of scratching and trying to refinish the scratch. He suggested the sanding sealer and wax (Briwax) but I questioned the use/need for the sealer.

Finish is now wide open to me which is why I thought of the Danish Oil and wax finish.

Matte finish poly cut 50-50 w/mineral spirits will give a protective finish for humidity stablization but not thick enough to notice. Scratches won't show and jatoba is naturally scratch resistant. Try it on a piece of scrap & then decide.
