I can second the Norton brands. I also use Mirka in adhesive backed. The rolls are expensive but seems to make me longer than I’d expect.

As far as different types of sand paper maybe some googling. I took some finishing classes years ago and seem to forgotten every thing. All I seem to remember is that The wet-dry kind handles loading a little better.
