Fred, what is it about the Jet that would make it not your first choice now? What would be your first choice, and why?

FWIW, I am also budgeting to upgrade to a Shelix cutterhead if I go with the Grizzly, simply because it’s about the same price to buy the Grizzly and Shelix cutterhead separately, and the Shelix head gave better results than Grizzly’s spiral cutterhead when one of the magazines did a side-by-side comparison. So I guess my actual target budget is closer to $1300 for an 8” jointer with a helical cutterhead.
