Picked this bad boy up today! Single phase, havnt looked at the hp rating. Looks brand new, well until the rain made it rust on my way home. Trying to get it cleaned back up.
I look everywhere, And i dont buy them if they sell over $500. The other lucky factor, no one wanted to really take it out of the basement.. Luckily i found 2 suckers that helped me! I took it apart to make it easier. I dont think anyone else really thought of that. It is heavier than the old powermatic one i had last fall. That was 3 phase, rusty, and i sold tjat for $600.
This one has a nick in a couple blades, can they be sharpened?
I just ran the jointer! Not to bad! A lot of vibration of the wood and surface. I will have to used one a lot to get used to it! It did a really good job, especially for having some minor nicks.
I have the DJ20 as well. I really like the soft start, and long solid jointer beds. It is so much easier to get straight, square lumber with a long jointer. You will be amazed how well the table adjustments lock in place. I had mine loaded into a trailer with a forklift. The jointer was lifted by tow straps attached to the tables, and after I unloaded it into my garage the tables were still perfectly coplanar.
There's a CL listing in my area that has a DJ20 for $695. It's not in as good of shape as yours by a long shot, but could be totally usable with some TLC. Now here's the real kicker, it doesn't have the base or motor! So yes the suckage is really strong in this thread!
Really great buy. I bought a jointer just like this one a little over ten years ago for $1,100. Love it, and wouldn't know what I would do without it. Blades are plentiful and easy to find. Keep them sharp and you will always have a fine machine with excellent results.
That's a great find! There's a couple DJ-20 on CL here but they want anywhere from $1000-$1300. At that price, I can get a brand new Grizzly with a spiral head and a warranty. I think I'm going to hold out and save up for a 12" Grizzly unless some phenomenal deal pops up.
I picked up it's little brother, the DJ-15 for $175 off of Craigslist. I also got the Delta Invicta RC-33 13" planer from the same place ($150). Keep watching Craigs, those deals are out there.
It was a nice jointer, and so it sold over the weekend! Since it was the only machine i had, i gigured it didnt hurt to sell it and make money on it until i can find more deals on other equipment.
Sold at $800! I think someone got a great deal on a really nice machine.
