Thanks everyone for the recommendations. I have looked at Grizzly, General, Delta, Jet and others.

LesB asked a very fair question. I am planning to use the saw for a variety of purposes rather than a single use saw. Furniture building will be one of the uses. Craftsman style with lots of tenons to cut. I also do some lathe work and collect wood from the street and backyards. Mostly downed trees that require some preparation before the pieces can be turned on the lathe. Small boxes will also be an occasional activity.

Most of these projects are straight forward activities. For the real creative side, I’m taken with guitars and mandolins. Re-sawing will come in handy when I have to cut the instrument back, top, and sides to fit the forms.

Perhaps, what I’m describing is a very large hobby interest. But what the heck, what is free time for. Truthfully, I’m hoping to find one for less than $700 to $800. A wide variety of saws are certainly within this price range.
