So a few weeks ago I made my first order from Lee Valley. I bought a dovetail saw, honing guide and some inlay and stringing tools. I am extremely impressed by the quality of what I bought. A few days after I received my items they sent out an email about getting 15% back on a gift card for Veritas purchases from 3/26-3/28. I was a little bummed out about that but didn't give it much more thought. On the 26th I ordered a set of bench chisels to take advantage of that offer but decided this morning that I might as well get the better chisels made from the PM V11 steel that they have because after buying the 5 chisel set and then an additional 1/8" chisel there was only about a $30 difference. Anyway, I called them this morning to change my order and while he was looking everything up in the computer I made a comment about their 15% deal and that I wish I had gotten their email sooner because I spent about $350 with them a few weeks ago. He said he'd see what he could do about that after he got my order sorted out. When I finished changing my order, he said that he put in for a gift card for the purchase a few weeks ago as well as my current order. That's an additional $50 I wasn't planning on getting. I was rather suprised by that. If this is typical of them I will be a customer for a long time.
I have always had good service with them and Lie-Nielsen tools. I bought some tools from them(both)had some issues and they both sent out replacement parts no questions asked (ordered the same day… Lie Nielsen was a few days faster, but communication from both was great.). I know some are pro one or the other, but I like to get the best of both worlds. Both are great. Although, I think Veritas tools are a bit ugly, they work awesome. I got a Skew rebate plane and a Shooting plane coming in the mail. I hope they don't disappoint me. I am sure both companies will take care of any issues!
I have beem a customer of theirs for several years and never had a problem. I cant say that for any of the other woodworking tool companys i have used.
Excellent - that's pretty awesome. It wouldn't surprise me for a company with a great customer service reputation to extend their promotion a little bit, but to stretch it by two or three weeks is above and beyond.
I have had good experience with Lee Valley customer service as well. I think I like Lie Nielsen tools a little better, but they are close. Glad there are a few companies that are still customer based. Glad you scored a few extra bucks!
I have been a Lee Valley customer for coming up on 10 years now. Judging from my experience with them they are more interested in long-term customer relationships than making a quick buck.
Lee Valley and Rob run a class act for sure.
Don't see anyone from Delta posting. Rob Lee and Shiraz Balolia from Grizz take pride in their companies.
Thanks for posting your good experience.
Bill
