Hi Prez
I know this is an old posting but may be you could find some nice local bloke to turn the spindle round again.
The previous person must have been a brute.
I had a problem with my drill but it turned out to be the chuck being out of round or poorly made. Most unlikely you would need a reverse on s drill press unless you are doing a lot of thread tapping.
I guess the bets thing is to pull the spindle out and determine if can be straitened or machined.
Just some thoughts, good luck – it would be a shame to junk it
