I bought this piece off of Craigslist for $45. He said it was Poplar…Im not too sure.
I have never seen this much figure in Poplar.

The chattoyance is really beautiful.

From the rough cut slab to finished piece I used all tranditional hand tools.

I got my first chance at hand cutting bowties (butterfly, dutchmans….), this table got 4.
Only the one on top is seen, the other three are in series underneath along a bark line.

It is finished with Danish Oil and a Gel Poly Topcoat.

I just cut 2 poplar logs with that type of grain pattern. If I didn’t know it was poplar, I would have bet on curly maple.

Very nice work.

Looks great, in fact, so good that you may not want to leave it in the middle of the road.

Gorgeous table! The grains and the live edge look amazing. Great wood and metal combo. Beautiful work!
