Mommy (my daughter) asked me to make a step stool for her 3 year old birthday, so here’s what I came up with. All walnut with beech pegs. Was going to just dowel the joints but thought the contrast of the pegs would add a little accent. I like the way it turned out but I did drive one of the pegs a little bit too far on bottom step. Finished with 5 coats a clear Watco and had my fingers crossed on how the sapwood accent would come out but I think I like it also. This was the second time I’ve used the conical sanding disk on my recently acquired Shopsmith and I can’t praise it enough. Boy does it do a nice job of cleaning up end grain. 1 light kiss pass and the piece is ready to go.

Very nice looking project. The Sapwood adds some interest to the piece : )

Thanks. Put it to use right away washing off birthday cake & icing so she could open up her presents.

Pretty and well made step stool. The walnut is beautiful and the pegs are great accents. Great job!
