A friend of mine wanted some custom target grips for his Ruger Blackhawk in .45 LC and I wanted to hunt for bears with his .45 LC, so we made a trade :) I made the grips for him and took it hunting. He unfortunately is left handed and I am right handed…so I made two sets. The first set for me made good practice to perfect a left handed set for him. These grips are made of curly maple with an accent of padauk. I first fitted the blank to the frame of the revolver, then I shaped them. To shape them, I hogged out the bulk with my bandsaw and then finished the fine contours with a spindle sander chucked in my drill press.

Looks good. How’d the bear hunt go? I used my Blackhawk .45LC to bag a 300+lb black bear in New Hampshire about ten years ago.

That’s pretty cool, I’m left handed so that’d work for me haha

Nice job on the grips. Hope you are talking black (and not Grizzly bears)!

Very nice! I’ve owned a few Ruger’s myself. The GP100 357 cal. and the SP101 in .38 special. Ruger makes great firearms. Well done on the grips!

Thanks everyone. Unfortunately I never got close enough to a black bear to shoot with the .45. There is always this fall though!

Nice design! They look like comfortable grips. I don’t guess I’m tough enough to hunt bear with a handgun. Teddy Bears…maybe :)

Very nice! Tell him to keep it locked up in a safe or heavy locker.
