Who says you cannot make a silk purse out of a sows ear?

Supposed to be cleaning up the Castle of clutter,... got side tracked and made these two boxes.

Well I did get rid of a few sticks of timber cluttering up the place!!

There is a blog covering the reason, process, finishes, jigs etc on a blog series of the same name for those interested.

Enjoy!

Cool boxes Rob.
Very nice.

Bob.

-- Bob, Western Australia, The Sun came up this morning, what a great start to the day. Now it's up to me to make it even better. I've cut this piece of wood 4 times and it's still too damn short.

Hey rc... you know how much I love reading so I came here on the back of the Plyo Box project…

Without casting aspersions on your inventiveness… how does a person with 3 fingers pick up that 4 finger holed box… Not too many people have the time to sit back and wait for that other finger to grow….

Why do so many cartoon characters and ducks only have four fingers? Simple: a four-fingered hand is SO much easier to draw than a five-fingered hand. Plus, it simplifies the design of the hand in the same way the rest of the body is simplified.

Although this simplification has been on a recent decline in cartoons starring people, it has never completely gone away. This only appears in more “cartoony” styles; action or dramatic series won’t usually use this, and it rarely shows up in Japanese works for several reasons:

Yakuza members traditionally chop off fingers if they are unable to pay back a debt, or as punishment for other offences that don’t warrant death.
The four-fingered hand is taken as a derogatory reference to the “untouchable” burakumin caste (four fingers = four legs = animals; also, it’s easy to lose a finger through the sort of dangerous labour to which burakumin are often relegated).
The number four in Japanese also means death and is seen as highly unlucky.

(This only really applies to human characters: there are still plenty of animal or monster characters with eight fingers, most likely due to some form of What Measure Is a Non-Human?)

Quite often, Western four-fingered characters have to be edited to have a fifth finger. Interestingly, this does not include Disney characters such as Mickey Mouse, despite Disney’s popularity in Japan—see Kingdom Hearts. Not a fan of their works being edited in any way, Disney is said to have paid USD 5 million a year to Japanese pressure groups to avoid being sued for Mickey’s “insulting” four-fingered hands.

I could redesign the box if you really needed it to be done!!

You get an ”E” for Effort in your defense of four fingers or as us ducks would say ”a quadruple bird”... but, have you got the same rhetoric for six fingers???

And what about the two toed sloths… no longer an endangered species here in Churchill… I’m sure some of them reading your response may take offense at your defense of those other over digitized characters….

Who has actually got six fingers?
- robscastle

Every six fingered person suffering polydactylism… there may not be many of them but I am told that without doubt every six fingered person has six… actually my calculator says 12… but who’s counting.

I used a prohibited item to use as a template but I and sure I could add some extra holes.

pottzy, I DON’T DIG... hell, that has the implication of that four lettered word WORK and I am quaking in my thongs(flip-flops not jocks) and breaking out in extreme hyperhidrosis from just the thought of it! Furthermore, your connotations above verge on the accusation of me reading… please consider that litigation is a growing process here in Australia… and if you want to stay on my Christmas shopping list, hold back on that recriminating finger!

PS. knowledgeable references don’t settle down too well either!

Pottzy:-
What actually happend was Fchilly posted a project and as it looked similar in construction to mine and also as I didn’t know what they were for I just had to go check it out, and then commented accordingly …this action possibly showed up somewhere and LBD being a very astute sort of person always having a wing on the pulse picked up on the activity. ...Thats my best guess.

Come to think of it what have you been up to lately? ...your a bit quiet, comments wise so you must be doing something keeping you busy?

Anyway ignore the fingers count, I want to know how a duck can wear thongs ….OMG I just realised there could be some Borat shots coming up!
