I made these out of some wet 4×4 redwood from one of the big-box stores. I wanted to make my Mom something for her birthday. I thought a vase would be a nice gift for someone who is stuck in the house with health problems. That way my Dad can put a pretty flower in it when ever he wants to or I can do the same on a visit. Because the wood was wet I chose to use the propane torch to provide the finish. The heat is what really brought out the “knot” on her vase. The one I gave her is shown in the first 2 pics. This one is also my favorite of the 3 I have turned so far.
The short one was taller but I didn’t like the shape I was coming up with so I adjusted as I went. All of them have plastic test tubes inserted so if a real flower is wanted water can be placed to keep the flower fresh. I got the Tubes off amazon 90 of them for about $15. So if you do the math that’s a great deal and I can make lots more vases.

Thanks for looking.

It’s beautiful. Like the shapes, the grains and the knot. I’m sure your Mom will like it too. Great job!

Have your say...
