Some time back my Wife and I decided we wanted new bedroom furniture. We didn’t want to pay several thousand dollars so we decided to repurpose our old dresser and chest and build a new bed and headboard. We modified the top three drawers on the chest and added doors. I added crown molding to the top and raised the entire chest with 12” X 3” tapered legs. The top drawers in the dresser were replaced with baskets. Both pieces then got new hardware, and several coats of semi-gloss black and then a clear coat. The headboard was pretty simple. The post were constructed of 3” select pine, and the back was 3/4 ” plywood. Add some crown molding and a few pieces of trim and you have a pretty nice headboard. The good thing is, my Wife and I done this project together and only spent about $400.00 on everything. This is my first post to LJ, but I have been reading post and enjoying the great work done by other members for some time now.

While not my particular style, I really like how you pulled it all together… Very interesting use of architectural trim for sure! Looks good…

Pretty nice, but like dbhost said, interesting trim, I think you went overboard on that, as it looks top heavy, and will probably poke your eye out.

Otherwise nice job.

You are very creative! ‘Repurpose’ might not be the the right term. Try- REINVENT! Your ability to make the old things adapt to new ways and new styles, is to be commended.

You did a great job, they came out really great looking. Like the dark finish and the modern style. Great job!
