I have been a member of LJ’s for around 10 months now, and it has become a regular call during my day. I came across a Maloof rocking chair browsing the internet, and that got me inspired to try and better my skills ( I think a Maloof chair has hooked a lot of people!). I have to echo several other members by saying there are some incredibly talented guys out there, and also incredibly generous sharing their knowledge and experiences.

I am posting this project of a double bed I made around 15years ago. Yes, I know it’s along time ago, but It is really my first project. I was fortunate to have a friend who let me use his work shop, but he lived around an hour away so once I finished my bed I stopped and it has taken me this time to get my workshop together. I am now busy trying to get my skills up, building jigs etc.

The bed is pine, my own design and finished with wax, which I made for our holiday cottage in the Nyanga mountains. I bolted it together so I could move it if necessary as it is very heavy. I hate creaking beds, so am very happy that after 15 years it is still rock solid. Please excuse the crumpled bedding, but we were on holiday.

Thanks to all you guys out there for posting and inspiring guys like me. I have learnt a huge amount and as importantly saved myself loads of time – At my age that is invaluable!! Bruce

the design brings one word to mind- hump. Guess that would explain the messed up covers.

Sorry, I could not resist, it looks great!

Good one Dan, now you know why I like a work bench that doesn’t creak! The hump is a bit big, but being my first project, well who cares.

It sure looks good and sturdy. Like the look of the wood and the curves. Great job!
