My two first pens

So I took up pen turning finally, which is what I intended to do originally when I got my lathe. Just never got around to buying a kit. Suffice to say that I’m hooked! The blanks are both maple although one is bird’s eye and the other is just plain maple. I tried to make a finger grip with the plain maple but I didn’t know the short blank goes on the clip’s end… I can laugh about it! They’re finished with padding lacquer from Lee Valley, their French polish. Strangely it dulled after about an hour in the house, would anyone know if cold affects lacquer? It’s cold (near freezing) in the garage and of course warm in the house.

Not sure on the finish but those are great looking pens. Glad to see I am not the only one who got hooked the first time turning pens.
Keep showing you work on the pens…

Thanks James, I sure will! This site is like a great portfolio for one’s work.
