Hi LJs,
I haven’t been posting much but I do check in periodically.
Here is one of the reasons I’m not posting much… too busy designing and building a few new items like this one.
This is a cantilevered jewelry box made of maple and walnut. It measures about 15 inches long and about 7 inches high. There are 3 drawers of varying sizes that cant from the 2 walnut braces. It was a bear to design and build (saw something like this on the web but not exactly the same – I put my own touches on it). Everything had to be exactly square and I needed a way to open the drawers. I just routed out a 1/8 in. groove in the drawer front and it is nice and easy to open all the drawers. The drawers had to fit nice and tight but not too tight and I ended up putting the back of the boxes on last. I also should have finished the pieces first and then assembled but why make it easy!! I will be flocking the insides as soon as I get some time.
Ellen

Hi Ellen. It’s nice to see the end product after seeing the photo you showed me at the Woodworking Show. Nice execution from concept to finished project. I had no doubts you would figure it out. I guess in this case “cant” is okay to have in your vocabulary.

Far out !
You are “cutting edge” Ellen !
Just when you think you’ve pretty much seen all the box designs, BAM, Ellen amazes us. (again…lol)
Nice job all the way around Ellen !

Thinking “Out of the Box”...
Very interesting & unique.
I was wondering about how the Base looks… the part that sits on the table… Legs? etc. ?
Really COOL and far out!
Thank you.

Great looking jewelry box! I like the opposed drawers—great access to items in the middle of the drawer.

Very attractive Ellen .
The design has a feel of a Frank Lloyd Wright influence.
A nice departure from the common jewelry box designs .
I think you created a winner .

I agree with kiefer, it has a definite FLW feel to it. Very nice design.
