The very talented folk on this site inspired me to make some cutting boards for Xmas. I made several of this one for Xmas gifts. This one has maple, walnut and some sort of red wood, which I had forgotten about for 15 years, that I just happened to have lying about, so the cost was only my time. Finish is mineral spirits and beeswax. Do you recognize the red wood? Are the central two strips padauk?
The second cutting board, I just completed. It is end grain containing maple, walnut and cherry. I was also inspired by Mike from Buffalo with his plate shape cut into and under the board. I wanted to keep it rectangular in shape so I merely cut out the part circle with my bench saw … just enough for the plate to partially slip under. I chose the roughest side for the bottom, and put rubber feet on it as well so it dries off well. Finished again in mineral spirits and bees wax.

Thanks, R_Stad. It is not good enough to gift, but certainly good enough to use for ourselves.

Both boards look great. Very nice wood combo and great idea on the cut out for the plate. Great job!
