It was an idle hands moment, so I put some leftover scrap to work to keep myself out of trouble. The bases are simple miter construction from Walnut veneered plywood. For the splines I used maple in one and Padauk in the other. The tops were constructed out of some figured maple. One I just put a little brown dye and then sanded lightly to “pop the grain”. The second I mixed up a custom concoction of trans-tint dye(translation: a few drops of this, a few drops of that). topped it off with some BLO.

Great idea, and nice use of scraps! Oh—and nice tissue boxes, too!

Fancy tissue boxes! Classy design, like the look. The top are gorgeous as well as the splines. Great job!
