This is my first woodworking project in quite a few years. I want to get back in it and neede a decent workbench to get started. After researching quite a bit, i settled on the one from Fine Woodworking’ s Getting Started In Woodworking series. It is a great starter bench and took me about a day and a half. I would highly recommend it. Next up is adding some cabinets underneath for tool storage. You can find the videos here:

I made the same bench a few years ago… With a few differences… I made my top longer (6’ instead of 5’), and I used Cedar for the base and plywood for the top. The plywood was a good option, be very, very glad you didn’t use a cedar base! What a mistake that was!

I have that same blue vise from Home Depot… I also have a quick release HF vise. I really like the quick release feature… But that blue vise does do the job well!

I just built the same bench last month! Pics up on my projects page—I’m getting great use out of it and it was a blast to build. Congrats and enjoy!

Have your say...
