Carved from a hunk of birch. All I had was a mallet and a couple of scoop chisels… a labor of love.
Wanted to carve it while still green, so was keeping it in a plastic bag. Got distracted and left it in there for a couple of months. Pulled it out covered in mold! At first I thought it was ruined, but after some clean-up I realized just how beautiful the wood had become.
The other half, which was not in the bag, I made into a cheese board (see next project)... also beautiful, but nothing compared to this. When you see the two together its hard to believe they are “book-matched” pairs!
Finished with plain Danish oil and some poly.

Lovely piece! The wood is gorgeous and like the unique and cool shape. Great job!
