This is a dovetailed step stool with 34 hand cut dovetails. I used David Barron’s dovetail saw guide for this project; kind of like training wheels for your saw. The stool is made from poplar, with a warm brown finish. This was a project inspired by my vertically challenged wife and inability to reach high shelves. Plans for this dovetailed saw guide can easily be found online. Also please feel free to check out my new sites listed below.

Very cool. I designed a very similar stool but I haven’t built it yet.
Shouldn’t the tails be on the sides and the pins on top, from a strength standpoint?

I think with all the stress of the down pressure from being a step you have more support from a tail rather than a pin, just more wood from a tail in width.

Looks good and sturdy. Like those well made dovetails and great finish. Your wife gotta love it. Great job!
