My 2 year old and myself did this quick weekend project for my wife. She said she didn’t have enough storage in the kitchen so I built these 2 benches in the nook that just had a table before.

The seat framing connects to the wall and I made it out of 2X4’s. The sides and the back of the seats are made with 1/2 inch sanded plywood. I then made the top rails and seat bottoms out of poplar and stained it a dark red oak to cover spills. I hinged the seats so the wife had storage for big pans and appliances that took up too much room. I also hinged the back of the seat so she could use that small area for her broom, cleaning supplies and paper towel storage.

Next project will be to build a table that is connected and hinged to the bump out window.

Looks and works nice.
Happy wife = happy life.

Good job! I have thought about something similar. Good to see the little man helping out!

Beautiful benches! Like the finish. Great way to add storage and a nice cozy breakfast area. Well done!
