Another box from this maple table leg blank. I took extra care and got the lid super super tight. This think would hold liquids no problem. It would keep a Coke carbonated for sure.

I took extra care on the end grain of the lid and I definately got better results from keeping the speed up and the tool sharp and taking really light cuts. Used a scraper after the gouges and got it pretty smooth. There were some small little tear outs, but theres always next time.

Its about 8” tall with the lid.and about 4” across the bottom.

Wife says it looks like an apothecary jar.

You have to put a little muscle into getting the lid on, but it works well.

Hope the wood doesn’t move. It would be terrible to see such a pretty vessel crack

ha, me too. I stuck a moisture meter in it and it was 5%, super low, so I think that’s ok, my worry was the temperature change being in the cold garage, then under a 75 watt bulb when turning thin, and then into the house. I left the inside without wax or a finish in case it needed to breath a bit to re-equilibriate when inside.

we will see. however, I think I will go get some more of those maple table leg blanks. they’re about 4 or 5” square and 3 feet long. plenty long enough for 3 or 4 of these things for only 20 bucks.

Very pretty, like those grains and shapes and a tight fit on the lid to boot. Great job!

Have your say...
