A baby rattle that I turned. It’s my first attempt at a captured ring. I made a ring tool out of a landscape stake bent and sharpened into a curved J shape. It worked well considering I used a pine 2×4, the wood is really soft and had tendency to chip. I sanded to 400 and finished it with butcher block oil.

The last couple of pictures are of my boys testing it out. Seems to be a hit. Now I’ve got to turn another to keep them both happy.

That’s a really cool turning, I’m just learning myself … no captured rings yet …
OSHA would have a field day with you and the pinching hazard and the not so sterile wood … just kidding of course … Good looking shop helpers.

Great job! That’s great that you made the ring tool good way to save money and fun to do.

Cool baby rattle! Great shapes and the ring looks perfect. Fun to play with, I’m sure the adorable kids approve. Great job!
