Was getting some firewood today and noticed one of the logs was really straight. So I grabbed it and put on my lathe I just got yesterday. It was a Christmas gift from my wife and got stuck on back order, so I just got it. This is the first thing I turned on it. I was going to make a rolling pin, but the wood said it wanted to be a mallet and hit other wood. So, I listened. It is spalted maple from a tree that was in my front yard. Now, I will just wait and see if the wood holds up, I hope it doesn’t warp or check, but we will see. I cut the tree down a year ago.
The wife says it is too pretty for me to be beating stuff with.

Congratulations on the new lathe and your first project on it! It sure is a beautiful piece of wood. I still haven’t turned a mallet. So simple but I just haven’t done it yet!

Well, you need to turn you one. I use it all the time. It is pretty dented up now.
Have your say...
