The Catan “table/board is 4in thick maple and walnut, with 2 drawers for storage, if I do this again I don’t think I would use maple for all the game pieces, but walnut, cherry , and maple worked out well for the tiles. I owe bigtime for the gent here on LJ for posting his procedure for cutting hexes sry I don’t have his name right now, but I will track it down when I update this project.

That’s pretty neat. Are you going to paint the tiles? Are you planning any expansion packs?

As a lover of this game, this is something I’ve thought about doing myself. How do you plan on finishing these pieces to identify each resource? I really like the recesses for the numbered disks. Where those just drilled with a forstner bit?

Most impressive, and a great game. Do you have any helpful advice on safely cutting such small pieces?

I stained and used wipe on poly on the tiles, game pieces I used thinned acrylic paints then wipe on poly, if I do this again I will use dyes. I havn’t thought about doing the expansions, I made a couple of jigs for table saw work until I was satisfied of the safety, and most of the small pieces were done on band saw the finished tiles each have 2 forstner holes in the 1 permanent one for resource and one with a removable number disk.

I was also planning to do this this summer. I am some what confused, you say that there are 2 forstner holes but I only see one. Are you planning to add a locking boarder of “ocean”? What is the one tile you show with the maple border?
I guess I need to wait for the update?

Love this game. Great idea to do it in wood
