Been messing around with making 3D objects on the scrollsaw. These little guys were inspired by some of the compound cut Christmas ornaments – I figured why not give it a try with a cross and learn some things.

These were just cedar 1×4s cut and glued, then cut to a size that would fit in my scrollsaw. Going through that much wood, I thought a soft wood might help speed things up a bit. The patterns were just me sitting on the couch with a pencil and a block of wood. I thought if I tried a few different styles and mixes of straight and curved lines the outcome would help guide my future endeavors (besides, when I’m on the saw, the likelihood of actually following a line isn’t particularly great).

The first one I cut (pic 2) turned out the best, and surprisingly every single piece cut from it contained a cross (pic 6), which is pretty cool.

Great efforts, I really like the fact that you designed them yourself. The cross is my favorite scroll saw project.
