I love shop made tools and have wanted some depth gauges for my turning projects. These are based on a design I found online posted by a fellow named Dolan Brown from North Carolina, thanks. The larger is 13×1 3/4×1” and has a 3/16” brass rod that’s 10” long. The smaller is 6×1 x 1” and has a 1/8” rod 6” long. The finger screws go into threaded inserts. The bodies are cherry and the knobs are ipe. Depth gauges similar in size to the small one are sold by a well known turner for $60.

Nice work, I made a couple of those also, I was surprised to learn how often I used them.

Do you have the drawings for the pieces to make the bowl depth gages?

Does anyone have a link to the design by Dolan Brown that Glen references? I have scoured the internet and I can’t find them.

Have your say...
