‘Twas the night before Christmas, and under the tree
Laid a sprinkling of presents, none of them from me.
I shopped and I googled, nothing good enough
for whom I was shopping, already had too much stuff.

So down in the shop, the dust started to fly,
finally an idea I could gift to this guy.
A big block of scrap walnut, and a deep angled dado,
emerged from my sander a shape resembling play-doh.

On the desk of my brother, many Christmases later,
I hope to the heavens, inventors will savour
the shape of the phone that sits safe in this slot,
for if the form-factor changes, my gift will soon rot!

Your as much a word-smith you are a wood-smith. Now that you mention it, Apple’s minimalist approach HAS brought cellphone holders to the repertoire of woodworking. Lets see how we adapt if trends shift!

I think this is a great piece, it has a clean sculptural form that could stand on its on (no pun intended) without the phone.

Great job,

Original design, I like it a lot.
